Heejin Kim

DIRECTOR / WRITER / PERFORMER

Heejin Kim is a Korean director, playwright, theatre-maker, mover who explores experimental curiosity through international interdisciplinary collaboration. She is interested in multi-cultural, multilingual perspectives from different background. Her work is fascinated by absurdity and glitch of every day life.

Her first work Bot won the 1st place in the youth playwriting competition of Korea National University of Arts in 2015. Collaboration of youth playwriting showcase at National Theatre of Korea premiered in 2017. Her interest in theatre directing has been growing over the years, she made my own theatre company called theatre knee.

Always interested in international collaboration and storytelling by developing imagination and communication through the use of space and body. Her aim is to reflect the themes, interchanging the multicultural and multi-language aspects with a complex narrative when devising the play. She would like to produce a play where the audience has as important a role as the actors on the stage. A piece of art that encourages a train of thought that is unique to each individual in the theatre, ultimately forming a different version of the same play in everyones minds. Lately, She has been working on developing multidisciplinary methods applied to verbal/non-verbal performances with people from different backgrounds and cultures.

She graduates at The Royal Central School of Speech & Drama in 2022.
